✨A New Chapter at Big Tex Campgrounds Begins…

Dear travelers, wanderers, and kindred spirits of the RV living and/camping varieties..

Welcome to a place where wildflowers bloom beside gravel paths, where stars blanket the night sky in quiet wonder, and where the breeze through the trees refreshes the mind.

Let me introduce myself!

My name’s Melia, I'm the redheaded lady in the photos - Not to be confused with the two pups (Remy the corgi and Millie the papillon) or the man standing next to me. (His name is Chase, but you can refer to him as "camp host husband")

We’ve traded in traffic jams for tree frogs, email dings for birdsong, and yes—actual walls for a good ol’ RV door that sometimes squeaks but hey, it adds character. I hail from the East Texas area in a small town on 5 acres of wooded land with a creek (the crick) that provided boundless adventures in my childhood. I was raised in the trees, molded by the trees… -Or however that quote goes - so it just makes sense that I would settle, at least for now, somewhere that felt like the home I grew up in.

I spent many years working retail management for multiple companies, tried out new careers in hotel assistant management, and even early childhood education. I enjoy teaching and caring for the littlest of magical creatures. My dream is to own a modest house, have an itty bitty petting zoo on 5+ acres, have a decent sized garden, and put a tiny home off to the side with the intentions to be a small Montessori style day school.

But until then, I accepted the questline “The Big Tex Wrangler” and began the goal of making your stay here at Big Tex feel like a warm cup of coffee with extra cream and sugar. (Which I may or may not be sipping on right now.)

Big Tex is rooted deep in the heart of Texas, but there’s a warm breeze of nostalgia in the air—where campfires crackle like they did back in the day, lanterns glow soft against the pines, and the woods hum with the same wanderlust that filled childhood summers long ago. I use my imagination and the stories my parents passed down to envision what a place that they might have enjoyed felt like, and my own experience growing up roasting marshmallows outside, listening to crickets, pitching up the old kiddy tent that my brother and I had and trying (but failing) at being brave enough to sleep the entire night out in our woods. They were fun times, the best of times!

As your Camp Host, I’ll be here to help your journey feel a little more enchanted and just like it did back then —  I’ll be your campground concierge, friendly neighbor, problem solver, and on rare occasions raccoon, possum, or owl whisperer. Just don’t tell those pesky princesses who can talk to animals, too. They’ll wanna recruit me and I’m trying to stay undercover!

Here on the blog, I want to create a shared space full of all kinds of useful knowledge and what’s the latest. Some from my own personal life and also dip deep into some research such as local adventures, campground updates, and helpful little guides for making the most of your stay. Including nature’s everyday wonders, and  the occasional reminder that bug spray is your friend. AND hopefully some shared insight from all of you too!

Yes. YOU!

So if there's something you'd love to see here, don’t hesitate to holler, text, or snail mail me. You got a favorite camping recipe? A funny RV mishap? A secret hidden gem in the nearby towns, or even an epic campfire story? (that may or may not be true) Reach out and let’s share the wealth!

But all humor aside, whether you’re visiting for a night or nesting for a season, I hope this space (and this blog) brings a little more peace, joy, and connection to your travels.

So grab your hammock, pour yourself a hot cup of something, and stay tuned.

Big Tex Campgrounds is more than just a place to park—it’s a place to pause, connect, and make memories worth retelling. You never know what small magic you might find beneath these piney wood canopies. And I’m so stoked to be part of your journey here!
