OUR STORY

RV Park builders Josh Burrell and Kaylee Pace

Meet the Founders

Big Tex Campgrounds isn't just a business; it's a dream that took root long before we ever met. Our story begins with two individuals, Josh and Kaylee, who shared a common vision, a love for the outdoors, and a desire to create a unique camping experience. Here's the story of how Big Tex Campgrounds came to be.

A pipeline family's transition

Josh spent 12 years working on pipelines, and it was a demanding career that often kept him away from his family. As their relationship grew and their family expanded, Josh and Kaylee knew that they needed a change. The time apart was taking a toll, especially with the arrival of their second daughter. So, they made a bold decision: they saved and invested for years, preparing for the moment they could shift careers and build something special together.

In July of 2022, Josh left his pipeline job in Abilene and headed to Ben Wheeler to turn their dream into a reality. But the dream to start a campground was not new; it was something they both had cherished individually long before they met. In fact, it was during one of their early phone calls, seven years ago, that they discovered their shared dream of creating a campground. Little did they know that seven years later, they would be making that dream a reality together.

Building and RV Park

Two unique perspectives

Kaylee's journey into the world of RV living began in 2012 when she was a single mom at the University of Texas. To save money, she lived in a camper, even before it became the trend it is today. She faced challenges, like using a tent as her closet and dealing with the occasional breakdowns, but she fell in love with the simplicity and sense of community that RV living offered. Her daughter had the opportunity to enjoy nature and play outside, making it a peaceful and enriching experience. Kaylee's time in an RV ignited her passion for creating a campground where others could enjoy a similar lifestyle.

Josh, on the other hand, had spent his pipeline career staying in RV parks. Over the years, he observed what he liked and disliked about these parks, from the layout to the utilities and materials used. He recognized the shift towards more symmetrical layouts in RV parks but dreamed of creating a campground that harmonized with the natural landscape, not just imposed upon it. Their combined experiences and perspectives would become the foundation of Big Tex Campgrounds.

What sets us apart

At Big Tex Campgrounds, we take pride in offering something unique in the RV industry. We prioritize quality over quantity and have carefully chosen and designed each spot ourselves. With 30 acres of land to work with, no two spots are exactly the same. Our campground is a labor of love, and we've dedicated over a year to crafting every detail. We want our guests to experience the beauty of nature while enjoying spacious, shaded sites.

As a self-funded, blue-collar family in our mid-30s, we've poured our hearts and souls into this project. We've taken risks and made sacrifices to bring our vision to life. When you stay at Big Tex Campgrounds, you're not just a guest; you're a part of our journey to create a place where families make lasting memories.

Big Tex Campgrounds RV Park

Passion for creating memories

What drives us every day is the opportunity to create a campground where families can come together and make cherished memories. We envision kids playing outside, parents lounging on the beach, and everyone enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors. Our monthly guests wake up to the soothing sounds of birds and the beauty of nature. Being a part of these special moments is what fuels our passion.

Community and Beyond

Big Tex Campgrounds is not just a destination; it's a hub for the community. Ben Wheeler, known for its unique festivals and events, is a place we're proud to call home. Our campground will be a draw for travelers, offering them the chance to experience the distinctiveness of this community. We're even building a nature path along the creek that will connect our guests directly to Ben Wheeler's vibrant scene.
